Put Away Crooked Speech
Verse
"Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you." Proverbs 4:24
Teaching
Speech reveals and reinforces the condition of the heart. Deceit includes lying, exaggeration, manipulation, selective truth, flattering for advantage, and words designed to create a false impression. Crooked speech may offer short-term protection, but it weakens trust and divides the inner life. Wisdom calls for distance - put it away and put it far from you. Truthful speech does not require harshness; it requires integrity. Today, let your words agree with reality, love, and responsibility. A guarded heart produces a trustworthy mouth.
Quote
"Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips."
- King David (Psalm 141:3)
Instruction
Monitor your speech for one day. Correct any exaggeration immediately and refuse gossip, manipulation, or defensive half-truths.
