Put to Death the Deeds of the Body
Verse
"...if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Romans 8:13
Teaching
Paul does not tell believers to kill the body; he tells them to put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit. This is important. Victory is not hatred of your body, but Spirit-governed living through your body. Appetite, anger, laziness, lust, fear, and impulsive speech all demand expression. The Spirit’s presence and power enable us to say no and to choose life. Today, do not fight the flesh with willpower alone. You may experience some victory, but it will not last. The new covenant runs not on willpower but on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Bring the desire into the presence of God and obey the Spirit at the point of pressure.

Choose one bodily habit or reaction that needs to come under the Spirit. Deny it today and replace it with prayer, Scripture, and obedience.
