Dealing with Strongholds
Verse
Vs 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. (2 Cor 10:4)
Teaching
‘Stronghold’ is a military reference to a fortified city, usually surrounded by defensive walls. Armies could fight for weeks and months with little effect on a stronghold. In discipleship, strongholds represent wrong but stubborn, resistant mindsets and thought patterns that refuse to go away.
In medieval warfare, strongholds would be weakened and ultimately destroyed by mounting a siege by cutting off supplies to the city. Ramps would be built to scale the walls, and the gates would be battered with heavy equipment. The defending army would eventually surrender due to starvation, the smashing through their gates, or the collapse of the wall.
Similarly, mental strongholds are destroyed by vigilant assault with the word of God.
Quote
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘You cannot paint.’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” – Vincent van Gogh.
Instruction
Mount a ‘truth-siege’ against any identified stubborn and repetitive negative thoughts. Starve them to death and invade them with truth.
