Overcome Evil with Good

Verse

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21

Teaching

Evil wins twice when someone hurts us and we respond by behaving in the same way. Paul teaches us not to let evil change who we are, but to overcome it by doing good. Doing good does not mean being weak, ignoring wrongdoing, or allowing people to mistreat us. Sometimes it means speaking up, protecting others, forgiving someone, or setting firm boundaries. What matters is that our response reflects God's truth and love rather than anger or hatred. Think about your week. Has someone's behaviour caused you to act in ways you normally wouldn't? Choose to respond with goodness, even when it is difficult. By doing so, you refuse to let evil change your character.

Quote

"Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing."
- The Apostle Peter (1 Peter 3:9)

Instruction

Identify one cycle of harmful response. Plan a good action that is truthful and safe, and carry it out without seeking revenge.
